ʻOhana Calapini, Baylosis, & Ompoy
Donate here:
From Marley, a recent Hui Poly (ʻ23) alum: Aloha my name is Marley Calapini. I was born and raised on Maui in Lahaina. As many of you know, a wildfire has devastated my hometown. My ʻohana has lived in Lahaina all their lives sharing the same homes for generations. Unfortunately my mom, tūtū, and other family members homes and all their belongings have been lost to this unforgiving fire, as well as so many others. And as much as I would love to say all of my family members are safe and accounted for, unfortunately we are still missing my Aunty Vanessa and Uncle Narciso Baylosis. We are still holding hope that we will find them. I have put out my venmo to help my mom and tūtū, and have been sharing my Ompoy ʻohana gofundme as well. We have been recieving so much love and support from so many people, even strangers from all over! This is going to be a long road to recovery, ANYTHING will help. Prayers are everything and we are so grateful and appreciative of everyone that has been helping even if its a text or call to check in❤️ |

From IV Maui student’s (Carly's) sister, Ava: Hi my name is Ava, I knew about interVarsity through my sister Carly who is an active member of the church community in Maui. She spends so much time with InterVarsity Hawaii. I was able to go up to Mauna Kea on a trip with the group here in Maui and it was a beautiful time and an unforgettable experience. I feel so loved and grateful to know these people and to have my own sister be such a close friend to many interVarsity members. My apartment burned and my partner and I are displaced. We are feeling so much love and prayers and are doing what we can to give back. Please help with whatever you can. we are feeling so blessed that we have our lives, and whatever we need through the love and support of the Maui community. Thank you! |

From Kanoe, an IV Hawaiʻi Hui Poly alum: This is my Uncle Isi & Aunty Lea + my cousins Sione, Ana, Mata , and Mavae. They all grew up in Lahaina and are the most humble & giving people. They lost everything from the fire and will be sharing any donations received—with our Uncle Kanatea + his family as well! Their eldest son Tavake created this GoFundMe for anyone who is able to donate. Thank you 🤍 ʻOhana PanlasiguiDonate here: Tony and Lee-Ann Panlasigui are cousins of Dani Espiritu (IV Hawaiʻi staff). Their family lost their home and belongings in the Lahaina fire. The following was written by their son, Ross, who is away at college:
"Unfortunately, the fire swept through every home in my neighborhood including mine. My family was able to evacuate safely and find shelter with relatives in Napili. I will be forever grateful to God for ensuring their safety, as I know many families were not as fortunate. It truly broke my heart to see the flames that engulfed the historic ancient capitol of Hawaiʻi, and the place that I am so lucky to call my home. I am not usually the person to ask for favors, but at times like these the truth is that the re-building process will be both financially and physically difficult. On behalf of my ʻohana, we would like to mahalo you for any and all donations." |

From Keoki (IV Hawaiʻi volunteer & spouse of Area Director Moanikeʻala Nanod-Sitch): Aloha ‘ohana! This is my childhood friend Kamuela Hamakua that was born and raised on Molokai! He is someone that has such a huuuge heart and would give his shirt off his back and his last penny to anyone in need. I will never forget as long as I live how he risked his own life in a pool of bloody water to save my brother after he got bitten from a tiger shark. As everyone else got scared and swam to shore, he stayed by my brother’s side to bring him to safety! The fierce fires in Lāhainā took his home and everything in it, and now he & his ‘ohana are the ones in need. Mahalo NUI for covering them in pule & considering kōkua (help)! |
